Cockapoos usually have either single solid colors or have multiple complex markings. Often times patches of white are found on nearly every dog. A typical Cockapoo has a merle coat with random matted appearance. Their coats are usually compared to Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. But often times, their coats are either more sleeker than the Cocker Spaniel or they are more wavy than the Poodle.
Developed in the United States during the 1950s, Cockapoos were one of the earliest known hybrid dog breed. 10 or so years later they were introduced in the United Kingdom as designer dogs. Whether they were bred for as a hybrid was intentional or not, they’ve become a well-beloved dog breed from around the world. They’ve been known to be excellent family pets.
