The history of the Dogue de Bordeaux could possibly be dated back to around 14th century in France. However, the real breed type formally appeared only around 1922 when the focus was to save the pure breeding. The breed received today’s name in around 1865 when the first dog breed show was carried out at the capital of France. The winner was female Dogue de Bordeaux and then the name was give as the capital city of that area.
