Historically for over 200 years, the GPs have their tails docked and ears cropped in countries that don’t have legal proceedings. It was believed that doing those procedures prevent the spread of rabies, strengthen their backs, increase the speed, and prevent injuries while working. Today however they are mainly done for cosmetic purposes.
For obvious reasons, the German Pinscher is a dog breed that originated in Germany about 400 hundred years ago as ratters and guard dogs. Although somewhat the German Pinscher shares a common ancestry with the Doberman Pinscher, Miniature Pinscher, and other pinscher types, historical findings suggest that they are more closely associated with the Standard Schnauzer. This can further be substantiated since the Standard Schnauzer was originally called Wire Haired Pinscher and the German Pinscher’s original name was Smooth Haired Pinscher. With the establishment of the first Pinscher Club in Germany, they were officially recognized as a distinct breed. The main emphasis at that time was the short coat variety. Werner Jung is credited for brining life to the breed after they almost went extinct on both WWs. The first of its kind came into the US in 1980, although others claim that they were already available before that. The German Pinscher Club of America was established in 1985.
