Much like the Standard Poodle, the Miniature Poodle is squarely-proportioned dog with elegant apperance. The coat is the most prominent feature; it is curly, harsh, and dense. Since there are three variants of the Poodle, the Miniature Poodle is the medium-sized version. All three versions have long muzzle, rounded skull, oval-shaped eyes, and wide-set ears. Size (or height) is really the main differentiator of all three variants.
Although the Poodles have lived in Europe for centuries, their origins is quite vague. Researchers indicate that some of them originated in Germany, while others think they are from France, which they consider them as the national breed. Believed to be the descendants of the French Water dog (now extinct), the name Poodle is derived from the German word ‘Pudel,’ which means “plays in water”. They accompany hunters and are used to retrieve waterfowls. The Miniature Poodle, along with the Toy Poodles, were derived from the Standard Poodle.
